Concerns

  • Engage the community to:  participate in RCWA programs and activities;
    be a Link
    because Together~ we make a difference.

  • Participate in the collaboration with Metro Water Service’s Adopt-A-Stream program (stormwater stenciling and creek clean ups).  Organize stormwater stenciling and creek clean up projects, focusing first on areas of distress, and where poor stewardship is observed.

  • Educate the public on watershed sustainability and issues threatening Richland Creek’s vitality.
  • Assess the watershed segment by segment and identify “areas of concern” (AOC).

  • Reduce Non Point Source (NPS) pollution by building a continuum of residential installation of rain barrels and rain gardens:  provide how-to workshops on these two NPS reducers and encourage participants who have completed the installation, to in turn, lead a workshop for another group.  Build a volunteer corps of residents to assist in installing a rain garden or rain barrel for neighbors that may not be able to do so.

  • Offer solutions for observed AOC:  report areas that are experiencing dumping or other illegal activities for video monitoring, lighting or security controls;  propose and raise funds for riparian restoration projects; build documentation and information for sampling criteria, and build community volunteer corps to assist with oversight activities.

  • Seek partnership with regulatory agencies for water quality and stormwater sampling analysis costs.

  • Organize fund raising events for a RCWA project.

  • Create a database of “sightings;” stakeholder photographs that document wildlife, flora, AOC or other pertinent issues, with date, location and name of submitter to be posted on website.

  • Synergize goals with partners, and other organizations within the watershed, utilizing a blend of strategies and backgrounds.  Maximum successes using historical, creative and diversified approaches, accentuating the commonality between stakeholders.

  • Long term goal of establishing a RCWA location for operations, and to create the “green living” Environmental Resource Center (ERC); a living environmental library within the watershed.
